A Sacred and Joyous Occasion
Before starting his public ministry, Jesus received the baptism of repentance, given by St. John the Baptist. Although Jesus did not need to be baptized, because he was completely faithful to His Father’s will and free from sin, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to original sin, and begin to live a new life with God.
Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation, welcoming us into life with Christ. In Baptism, the Holy Spirit inspires us to holiness. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with an ever deeper love.
Parents wishing to have their children baptized at SJB must be registered parishioners for at least 90 days. In preparation for baptism, parents will be assigned a sponsor couple who will guide them through the Belonging Course by Ascension Press.
